Specialty Label Selection Guide
Specialty labels are chosen by the job, not by a single performance number. This guide gives selection logic across the specialty categories listed on the specialty labels page. It deliberately states no temperature rating, no chemical resistance rating and no flame rating, because the source material lists category names without per-item specifications, and a category name is not a performance figure.
Start from the surface and the environment
First, name the surface: panel, equipment housing, pipe, cable, or a test tube. Panel labels and equipment labels cover fixed surfaces; pipe arrow labels cover pipes; cable labels cover wires. Then name the environment: does the label face solvents, cold storage, heat, or a need to show tampering? Solvent-resistant labels, cryogenic labels, low-temperature labels, polyimide high-temperature labels, anti-counterfeit labels and flame-retardant labels are each listed as separate categories, and the category name is the starting point for the conversation with the supplier, not the answer.
Then check the printer and the consumable match
A specialty label is only useful if a printer you have can print it and the consumable is stated to fit that printer. Check the tape and ribbon category for the series match, and check whether the item you need carries a documented specification listing. Most specialty categories on this site do not, so the specification for the item you actually buy must be confirmed with the supplier before ordering.
What to ask before ordering
Ask for the exact category and item name as listed, the printer it fits, the size and quantity you need, and the performance figure that matters for your environment — and ask for that figure in writing. Do not accept a category name as a substitute for a figure, and do not let this guide's general wording stand in for the supplier's answer.
