Barcode and Asset Labelling Guide: From Printing to Management

Barcode and asset labelling connects a physical item to a record: print a label, apply it, and use the code on it to find the item again. This guide describes that process in general terms. It does not invent a customer case, and it does not claim any scanner product, because the source material documents barcode printers and labels, not scanners.

Printing the label

Barcode labels are printed by the BP series printers, whose shared specification listing is on the BP combined product page. The listing gives label width, roll diameter and interfaces as listed, and speed and width values side by side without assigning them to individual models. Asset labels, equipment labels and panel labels are listed on the specialty labels page by category name. The label material — PET, coated paper, thermal or metal nameplate, as described in a company news article about barcode printer selection — is a choice to confirm with the supplier for the environment the label will face.

Applying and using the label

Apply the label where it can be read later: on the asset itself for asset labels, on the package or pallet for logistics labels, and on the product or its production record for production labels. The general process is the same in each case — print, apply, record — and the differences are in the label material, the label size, and the place the label must survive. This site does not state a read rate, a scan distance, or a durability figure for any label, because the source material does not state them.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the printer model, the label material and size, the quantity, the MOQ, the lead time, and the price. If your process depends on a specific code type or a specific label performance figure, ask for it in your inquiry and confirm it in writing before ordering.
