Cable Identification Applications: Power Facilities and Industrial Automation
Cable identification matters wherever wires and cables must be told apart after installation: in power facilities, in industrial automation, and in any panel or cabinet where a wrong wire costs time or safety. This guide describes the applications in general terms. It does not invent a customer case, and it does not attach a performance figure to any identification form that lacks a documented specification listing.
Power facilities
In power facilities, cables run in large numbers through panels, cabinets and distribution boards. Identification forms used here include PVC numbering tubes printed by tube printers, heat shrink tubing printed by heat shrink tube printers, and signs and plates printed by sign printers. The identification must stay readable on the cable it belongs to, and the marker form — tube, sleeve, tag or plate — is chosen by the cable size and the place the cable runs. For the documented specification listing for PVC numbering tubes, see the PVC numbering tube page; other identification forms are listed by category name on the cable identification consumables page.
Industrial automation
In industrial automation, control cabinets, sensor lines and machine wiring all need identification that survives the working environment and can be read during maintenance. The same identification forms apply — tubes, sleeves, wrap-around labels, fold labels, knife and flag labels, signs, marker strips and cable tags — and the choice again follows the cable size, the available printer, and the consumable the printer is stated to fit. Equipment labels, panel labels and asset labels, listed on the specialty labels page, cover the fixed-equipment side of the same job.
How to specify an identification job
State the cable sizes, the marker form, the printer you use or plan to buy, and the quantity. Then confirm the consumable match for that printer, the MOQ, the lead time, and the price for each item before ordering. If you need a performance figure for a specific identification form, ask for it in your inquiry and confirm it in writing before ordering — this site does not fill in figures the source material does not state.
Quote my tube & label run: Tell us the printer model, the tube or label size, and the quantity. Before you pay, confirm the model, specifications, MOQ, lead time, and price for each item — see our inquiry confirmation page.
